About our City
The city of Miramichi lies on both shores of the Miramichi River, long known for its legendary salmon fishing and unspoiled natural beauty. The famous river runs through Northumberland County and empties into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Historically, the name "Miramichi" referred to the entire river valley, as well as all of its towns and seaports. It is still used in this context today.
