Twinning Agreement signed
between County Monaghan, Ireland
and
City of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada

An historic signing of a Twinning Agreement between counter Monaghan, Ireland and the City of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada took place during the 1998 Miramichi Irish Festival.

The agreement states:

    The City of Miramichi and County Monaghan wish to intensify their ties by promoting exchanges between the citizen of each jurisdiction such as through group visits and cultural exchange.

    Each jurisdiction will indicate the twinning agreement in any or all promotional materials published for tourism, cultural, social and economic purposes.

    A joint project (exhibition, fair, etc) will be organized alternatively in each jurisdiction on a yearly basis. The name of the project, or project is to be determined jointly by the authorities of both the City of Miramichi and County Monaghan after consultations with their citizens.

    Particular emphasis will be paid to developing economic ties between the business communities of the City of Miramichi and County Monaghan through economic fairs and the like.

    The City of Miramichi and County Monaghan, with appropriate education institutions or partners will develop a joint web site promoting exchanges between their citizens and promoting their twinning agreement.

    Authorities from both jurisdictions meet alternatively in County Monaghan and the City of Miramichi every year to discuss matters related to the present twinning agreement and projects to be undertaken.
